Scarcity vs. Abundance: What Story Are You Living By?
Share
Have you ever felt like there’s never enough?
Not enough time.
Not enough energy.
Not enough money, talent, support, or opportunities.
That inner voice that whispers, “You’re behind,” “You should be further along,” or “You’ll never catch up.”
That’s the story of scarcity, and for a long time, it was the story I didn’t even realize I was living by.
🌻 The Scarcity Story
Scarcity makes us believe that life is a race or a competition. That there’s a limited supply of success, love, creativity, or peace, and we have to hustle to earn our share. It shows up in comparison, perfectionism, and constant striving. It leaves us feeling disconnected, anxious, and exhausted.
And the worst part? We think this is just how life works.
But it’s not.
It’s just a story.
🌸 Choosing a Different Story
Abundance tells a different story.
It says:
There is enough.
I am enough.
Life is always offering me support, even if it doesn’t look how I expected.
An abundance mindset isn’t about pretending everything is perfect. It’s about believing in possibilities, even when things feel uncertain. It’s about recognizing what is available instead of constantly focusing on what’s missing.
🪷 Where Scarcity Shows Up (And How to Gently Shift)
Here are some common scarcity-based thoughts, and how you can reframe them:
-
Scarcity: “There’s no time.”
Abundance: “I can create a small pocket of peace today.”
-
Scarcity: “Everyone else is doing better than me.”
Abundance: “Their success doesn't take away from mine. There’s room for us all.”
-
Scarcity: “I’m not ready yet.”
Abundance: “I can take one small step today and grow from there.”
You Get to Choose Your Story
Your thoughts create your experience of life. And the story you tell yourself, day in and day out, becomes your reality.
I used to let the scarcity story shape my mindset without even realizing it. But once I began noticing it, I could change it.
Now, through mindfulness, affirmations, and creative practices like cross stitch, I remind myself every day:
There is time.
There is beauty.
There is enough.
And so am I.
